HIS1103 Western Civilization 1. Western Civilization to 1500

3 credits This course deals with how Western civilization developed in Mesopotamia from prehistoric times to the Renaissance. Christianity began in the Roman world and spread throughout Europe during the Middle Ages. In order to help the understanding of the later Greco-Roman civilizations, the author first examines the types of empires that prospered in the ancient world around Mesopotamia and Egypt, the relationship between the church and the state in Western civilization, and the rediscovery of the classical knowledge system of the Renaissance period. Let's see how much of an impact this has had.
